The Workers Protection Coalition released a study that revealed that the Workers Compensation system in New York state fails to meet the needs of many of its workers with limited English proficiency (LEP). These workers must be provided translation and interpretation services to help them benefit from Workers Compensation the same as they would for English-speaking workers.In a study that ran from May and December 2016, which observed close to 500 hearings before the Workers Compensation Board, revealed that LEP workers are not getting the representation that they need. Here are just a few of the findings in the report:
- In 18% of the hearings observed required interpretation services for the worker
