Impairment measures the physical and mental harm from a workplace injury. During a New York workers compensation benefits independent medical exam, a medical professional determines one’s level of impairment and work ability on a scale of 0 to 100. A worker with an impairment rating of less than 50 will likely be able to return to work at full or limited capacity, while a worker with an impairment rating of 50 or above probably cannot return to work.
